Apple Raises Mac, iPad and HomePod Prices in India as AI Boom Triggers Chip Cost Surge

Apple has significantly increased the prices of several products in India, including MacBooks, iPads, HomePods, Apple TV devices, and desktop Macs. The move comes amid a global surge in memory and storage chip prices, which the company says has been driven largely by the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence infrastructure and data centers. Notably, iPhone prices have not been increased for now.

The price revision follows recent comments from Apple CEO Tim Cook, who warned that rising component costs had reached a level where absorbing the additional expense was no longer sustainable. According to industry reports, demand for high-performance memory and storage chips from AI companies has created unprecedented pressure on global semiconductor supply chains, leading to sharp increases in manufacturing costs.

How the AI Boom Is Affecting Apple

Artificial intelligence has become one of the biggest drivers of demand for advanced computing hardware. Companies building large AI models and operating massive data centers require enormous quantities of DRAM memory and high-speed storage components. As a result, chip manufacturers have increasingly prioritized supplying AI infrastructure providers, creating shortages for consumer electronics companies.

Apple says the cost of memory and storage components has risen dramatically over the past year. The company had initially absorbed these higher costs, but continued increases forced it to revise prices across several product categories. Analysts believe the situation reflects a broader trend affecting the entire technology industry rather than Apple alone.

Which Apple Products Became More Expensive?

The price hikes affect a wide range of Apple products sold in India. MacBooks, iPads, Mac desktops, HomePods, and Apple TV devices have all seen increases. Some premium models have become tens of thousands of rupees more expensive than their previous prices.

Among the most notable changes, several MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models have received substantial price revisions. iPad models across multiple categories have also become more expensive, while HomePod smart speakers and Apple TV devices have recorded significant increases as well.

Why iPhones Were Spared

Despite raising prices across much of its hardware portfolio, Apple has chosen not to increase iPhone prices at this stage. Industry observers believe this decision is strategic, as the iPhone remains Apple’s most important product and contributes a significant share of the company’s revenue.

Maintaining stable iPhone pricing allows Apple to protect demand in one of its most competitive product categories. However, analysts caution that if memory and storage costs continue to rise, future iPhone price adjustments cannot be ruled out.

A Wider Industry Trend

Apple is not the only technology company facing rising hardware costs. Several electronics manufacturers have reported increased expenses due to higher semiconductor prices. The rapid growth of AI infrastructure is consuming vast quantities of memory chips, storage devices, electricity, and computing resources, creating inflationary pressure across the technology sector.

Industry experts describe the situation as one of the most significant supply-demand imbalances seen in years. As AI adoption accelerates worldwide, component manufacturers are struggling to keep pace with demand, leading to higher costs for device makers and ultimately consumers.

What It Means for Indian Consumers

For Indian buyers, the price hike means that purchasing a new MacBook, iPad, or HomePod will now require a larger budget. Students, professionals, creators, and businesses that rely on Apple products may need to reconsider upgrade plans or explore older models that remain available at lower prices.

At the same time, the development highlights how the AI revolution is beginning to affect consumers beyond software and services. While AI promises new innovations and productivity gains, it is also reshaping global supply chains and increasing demand for critical hardware components. Apple’s latest price increase is one of the clearest examples yet of how the AI boom is having a direct impact on everyday technology purchases.
